  • Simply plug your cable into the mounted connectors and test each individual zone in both thermocouple and heater cables by using the dial on the instrument panel to rotate through each zone. Bright blue LEDs will light-up in the order of the wiring diagram. If a problem is detected, the LED will not light, indicating an open in the cable. If more than one LED illuminates, there is a short in the cable.
  • Test lead is also included to probe for pushed back pins and other problems in the connector insert.

 Maintenance Routines
  1. Check for open or miswired heater and thermocouple zones.
  2. Check for shorts.
  3. Rewire a connector.
Maintenance the "Old Way"
  1. If doing it by yourself, you have to put the cable between your legs, put your meter in audible mode and precisely touch the matching pins for each zone -- and you have to know the wiring diagram! If a zone were miswired, you would have to touch every other pin in the connector to find which pin is miswired.
  2. 576 point-to-point test manually checking for continuity, between the zone-1 pin and any other pin that it is not supposed to be in circuit with zone-1 (depends on wiring diagram), if there is continuity then there is a short. Once zone-1 is verified, then you have to go to zone-2 and touch every other pin that is not supposed to be in circuit with it; then zone-3, zone-4, etc. You would have to know the wiring diagram.
  3. To rewire a connector, once the controller side of the cable is wired, you would have to manually probe zone-1 pin and then every wire on the mold side until you find continuity. Then do that for every zone.
Now With CableXChecker®
  1. Simply turn the dial through each zone’s hot and return position. If there is an open, the zone will not light up. If a zone is miswired the wrong zone will light up.
  2. Simply turn the dial through each zone and the CableXChecker® will light up the extra zones where there is a short.
  3. Use the probe to touch any wire on the mold side and the CableXChecker® will light up the zone it should be wired to.
